Meet to move has been invited to participate at the Festival Internationale de Danse Contemporáine "On Marche", Marrakesh, Morroco

On saturday 11th of march meet to move has been present at the 16th edition of festival, founded and directed by Taoufiq Izzediou, with round tables and a video conference.  It was a wonderful experience to be able to connect to dance creators, and writers, and to learn about the situation of contemporary dance in Morocco. We got to know ongoing projects that help to broaden audiences for dance, had the chance to view performances, and met with dance makers and organizers from many countries who visited the festival.

Round tables

During this edition of our round tables we focused on questions related to the creation of public and how we may obtain more visibility for our sector.  The main topic was challenges and opportunities for contemporary dance in the Mediterranean region.

And some of the questions we asked ourselves were:

Is there space for dance in every day life?

Which kind of assets do we have in our region to promote dance?

How is contemporary dance perceived by the general public?  Are there any expectations to be met?

Online meeting

Once we  finished our round table sessions, we connected to our online guests to share our thoughts and ideas.

Our online guests were:

-Oumayma Khikhia and Hamdi Trabelsi- CATdanse, Tunisia

- Aris Papadopoulos and Martha Pasakopoulou - arisandmartha, Greece

- Gaby Pardo Carpenter and Valentine Rochat - Colectivo Danza en Málaga , Spain

- Pablo Molero Navajas - Festival DZM, Spain

The next day we were lucky to be able to assist several open air performances and see a selection of young choreographers, who participated at the Prix Taklif at the Institut Francais, Marrakech.

Meet to move has been launched in Izmir, Türkiye, from November 4 to 6 of 2022.

We are very excited to announce that our first edition of Meet to move took place in Izmir from November 4th to November 6th, 2022 hosted by PAL Izmir. This first event has been the start of a series of events that will take place periodically in different locations in the Mediterranean Area.

Our journey started in the ancient city of Izmir which has been the port that linked trade in the whole Mediterranean Region historically. From here we will expand our network to create a sustainable base for exchange, impulse and union.

More than 120 artists, creators, organizers and researchers came together during these three days of events at different emblematic venues of the city.  We were happy to share experiences, ideas, questions, thoughts, concern and laughter during the round tables, videoconferences, showrooms and meetings.

The performances, Jam sessions and workshops were attended by more than 140 spectators, and we had to announce booked out spaces most of the time.

November 4th took place at Darağaç

The first part of the event was dedicated to round tables that dealt with the following themes: creation of new audiences, mobility of artists, the use of digital spaces for promotion and the aesthetics of contemporary dance in the context of the Mediterranean Region.

This first meeting has also been focused on the exchange of experiences and ideas with one of our partner cities Málaga, and we had the chance to get to know members of the Málaga Dance Collective in person and in our online meetings as well as in the Showroom space.

November 6th at Aksak Lounge

Then on sunday 6th we continued our networking sessions at the emblematic venue Aksak Lounge in the heart of Alsancak in Izmir.

We created a meeting point where local creators and organizers but also guests from other cities in Turkey came together and visited the Showrooms where choreographic works and presentations of several mediterranean dance festivals were exponed and their contacts were made available to provide the possibility to initiate new collaborations.

The results of the workshop were shown and of course we had organized a party to dance and enjoy our coming together with our guest DJane Güney.
